New era at Iberia and Vueling: Marco Sansavini and Carolina Martinoli take the helm

03-03-24

The aviation conglomerate International Airlines Group (IAG) has announced a significant change in the management of its two flagship airlines in Spain: Iberia and Vueling. In a strategic move that underscores the company's commitment to internal leadership, Marco Sansavini assumes the presidency and executive management of Iberia, while Carolina Martinoli takes the helm of Vueling, marking a new chapter for both entities.

Marco Sansavini, whose career at Vueling as president and CEO has been marked by notable achievements, takes over from Fernando Candela at Iberia. Candela, who held the position on an interim basis from May 2023, returns to his previous responsibilities as CEO at LEVEL, another airline within the IAG conglomerate.

Sansavini's experience and vision in the aeronautical sector are anticipated as a refreshing boost for Iberia, with the aim of consolidating its strategic position and expanding its presence in international markets, especially on transatlantic routes between Latin America and Europe.

On the other hand, Carolina Martinoli, who until now was Director of Corporate Affairs, Sustainability and People at IAG, assumes the leadership of Vueling. Her appointment not only reflects confidence in her extensive experience and professional competence within the group, but also underscores IAG's commitment to sustainability and talent management as fundamental pillars of its business strategy. Under his leadership, Vueling is expected to strengthen its operating model and continue its expansion, while maintaining a focus on efficiency and environmental responsibility.

This announcement coincides with IAG's financial results presentation in London, where Luis Gallego, CEO of the conglomerate, highlighted the positive performance of its Spanish airlines. Gallego highlighted the unique position of Iberia and Vueling to capitalize on the increase in air traffic between Latin America and Europe, underlining the importance of these management changes as a reflection of the quality and depth of experience of IAG's leadership team.

The decision to entrust these key roles to in-house professionals demonstrates the group's confidence in its internal talent and its ability to address industry challenges, driving growth and innovation. The combined experience of Sansavini and Martinoli promises not only continuity in operational excellence but also a renewed vision to adapt to the changing dynamics of the global aviation market. With these appointments, IAG strengthens its management structure and reaffirms its commitment to effective leadership and sustainable growth strategy.
