Kavinder Gupta, senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, underscored the significant potential of religious tourism in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing its economic benefits to the Union Territory.

During his visit to the ancient Martandey Surya Temple in Mattan, Anantnag, Gupta stated, “Religious shrines are a rich part of our cultural heritage. Jammu and Kashmir boasts numerous well-ornamented ancient temples. However, the lack of proper maintenance and conservation has left many of these temples in a dilapidated state. These jewels of our architectural heritage need proper repair and maintenance to be developed into religious tourism destinations.”

He highlighted the need for expanding facilities for pilgrims and improving infrastructure to enhance connectivity across Jammu and Kashmir, aiming to unlock the full potential of these religious sites for tourism.

Gupta praised the Prasad Scheme initiated by the Modi government for its role in developing pilgrimage destinations, calling for its extension in the Union Territory. He urged the government to restore neglected temples and compile a list of potential religious tourism sites.

Later, Gupta engaged with the Martandey Surya Temple management committee, including Ashok Kumar Sidha, President of Martand Tirath Trust, and other officials.
