Paris 2024 Olympic Games to be the most sustainable ever
27-07-24
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are being hailed as the most sustainable in history, thanks to several innovative initiatives aimed at reducing environmental impact. From the use of renewable energy to the promotion of biodiversity, Paris is making history with its green approach.
Paris 2024 is setting a new standard with the goal of cutting carbon emissions in half compared to previous Games. With an estimated 1.75 million tons of CO2 emissions, the Paris Olympics will significantly reduce the carbon footprint compared to the 3.5 million tons averaged by Tokyo, Rio and London. Key strategies include minimizing transportation emissions by encouraging the use of public transport and bicycles, using existing venues and building new ones with sustainable materials.
Approximately 95% of the venues for the Paris Games already exist, reducing the need for new construction. The few new structures being built, such as the Olympic Village, the Aquatics Center and the sports complex for badminton and gymnastics, are designed with sustainability in mind. For example, the Aquatics Center will use solar energy, recycled materials and biomass-derived products, while the Village will be powered by geothermal and solar energy.
