FITUR 2024 opens in Madrid setting records and consolidating global and sustainable tourism

The International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR) 2024, being held in Madrid from January 24-28, organized by IFEMA MADRID, marks a milestone in its 44th edition, reflecting the remarkable growth of the tourism industry nationally and internationally.
This edition not only stands out for its potential to generate business, promote destinations and strengthen professional networks, but also for its contribution in terms of knowledge and approach to responsible and quality tourism.
Juan Arrizabalaga, General Director of IFEMA MADRID, in his press conference, emphasized the importance of FITUR in shaping the strategies of companies and destinations for the current year, and its role in promoting a sustainable and responsible tourism model.
This year, FITUR is expecting record numbers with 9,000 participating companies, 152 countries and 806 exhibitors in 9 pavilions. Attendance is expected to reach 150,000 professionals and 100,000 visitors from the general public, generating a significant economic impact in Madrid, estimated at 430 million euros.
Ecuador, as Fitur 2024 Partner Country, has a prominent role, with an expanded presence and 48 Ecuadorian co-exhibitors. Diego Andrade, Undersecretary for Promotion of the Ministry of Tourism of Ecuador, stressed the importance of this participation for the country.
The international nature of FITUR is growing this year, with a 7% increase in the number of exhibitors and the presence of 96 official destination representations. The fair also stands out in terms of innovation and sustainability, with a 23% increase in tourism technology companies and a focus on responsible tourism.
The official presentation of FITUR 2024, held at IFEMA MADRID, reflects the forecasts of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) for a significant recovery in international tourism.
In addition, FITUR advances in its specialization and sustainability with sections such as FITUR 4all, in collaboration with IMPULSA IGUALDAD, to promote accessible tourism, and FITUR Sports, in alliance with AFYDAD and with the sponsorship of FRANCE OLYMPIC AND SPORTS, highlighting sports tourism as a driver of sustainable tourism.
