FITUR 2024: launch of global Cocoa and Religious Tourism Networks
24-01-24
The International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR) in Madrid, recognized for its relevance in the global tourism sector, will host two outstanding events at its 2024 edition: the launch of the World Cocoa Tourist Destinations Network and the World Religious Tourism Destinations Network.
World Cocoa Tourist Destinations Network
This network, an initiative of the Tourism and Society Think Tank led by Amora Carbajal Schumacher, seeks to celebrate and promote the culture of cocoa and its derivatives. The official presentation will be divided into two main events: one at the Guatemala stand, chaired by Harris Whitbeck, Minister of Tourism of Guatemala, and the other at the ProColombia stand, with the participation of the Governor of the Department of Quindío, Juan Miguel Galvis Bedoya, and Amora Carbajal Schumacher.
The project focuses on offering an immersive experience in the history and culture of cocoa, allowing visitors to explore cocoa plantations, chocolate factories, thematic museums, and participate in festivals and cultural events. It also offers themed cocoa routes, chocolate-making workshops and tastings that will allow tourists to learn about the process from the seed to the final product.
In addition to tourism experiences, the World Cocoa Tourist Destinations Network is committed to Regenerative Tourism, promoting responsible practices that benefit local communities and the environment.
World Religious Tourism Destinations Network
Led by Pilar Valdés Arroyo, the World Religious Tourism Destinations Network will be presented at the Guatemala stand and at the Costa Cálida - Region of Murcia stand. This network aims to promote intercultural appreciation and awareness through religious tourism, highlighting spiritual sites of global importance and celebrating their historical and spiritual richness.
Collaboration with religious communities is a fundamental pillar of this network, ensuring joint promotion that benefits visitors and local communities. Tourism infrastructure will be developed to enhance the experience of pilgrims and tourists, with a focus on preparing and equipping destinations, training tour guides and creating information centers.
The World Religious Tourism Destinations Networkns is also distinguished by its innovative approach to marketing and promotion, using modern communication techniques to increase recognition of its destinations. In addition, the creation of the Religious Tourism Destination Seal symbolizes excellence and authenticity in religious tourism.
Both networks, presented at FITUR 2024, represent significant innovations in global tourism, offering unique and educational experiences to travelers, and highlighting the importance of sustainability and cultural respect.
