The alliance was created on 1 February 1999 with the aim of increasing connectivity and flexibility for passengers and rewarding frequent flyers with special benefits and privileges. Since then, oneworld® has grown to include 13 of the world's leading airlines in the alliance: Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Royal Jordanian, SriLankan Airlines, 26 affiliate airlines and one oneworld® connect partner, Fiji Airways. Oman Air will join the alliance in 2024 and become its 14th full member. Every six seconds a flight of one of the member airlines lands or takes off, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
