Cantabria (Spain) presents the Itinerant Congress Universal Jubilee Year 2025: Tourism, Heritage and the Environment

Looking ahead to the Jubilee Year 2025. Cantabria is set to become an international reference point for religious, cultural and natural tourism thanks to the celebration of the “Itinerant Congress Universal Jubilee Year 2025: Tourism, Heritage and Environment. Santo Toribio de Liébana - Cantabria” this event represents a unique opportunity to explore the historical and spiritual heritage of the Camino Lebaniego, a pilgrimage route that connects history, nature and faith.
As part of the international promotion of the event, the Fundación Camino Lebaniego has organized an International Fam & Press Trip for religious leaders, academics, journalists and representatives of the tourism sector from different countries.
This meeting aims to show the richness of the region and highlight the central role of the Camino Lebaniego in religious tourism, and to present the activities of the Itinerant Congress.
The Itinerant Congress Jubilee Year 2025: Tourism will be held along the Camino Lebaniego ending around the Monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébana, home of the Lignum Crucis, the largest known fragment of the Cross of Christ. This event will not only attract pilgrims and visitors from all over the world, but also boosts the region as a key destination for sustainable and spiritual tourism.
During four days, from December 12 to 15, participants will enjoy guided visits to emblematic places such as the city of Santander, the Monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébana, the Collegiate Church of Santillana del Mar, the Infantado Tower in Potes, and the Romanesque church of Santa María de Lebeña.
Highlights of the program include the celebration of Holy Mass in Santo Toribio, debates on spiritual tourism and visits to historical monuments such as the Pontifical University and Gaudi's Capricho in Comillas or the Collegiate Church of Santillana del Mar. In addition, the program will include spiritual reflections, religious celebrations and debates on the impact of sustainable tourism on the Camino Lebaniego.
A Way full of history and spirituality
The Lebaniego Way, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, connects the Coastal Way along the Cantabrian coast with the Picos de Europa, culminating in the Monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébana. This route is not only a spiritual journey, but also a journey through spectacular landscapes and a cultural legacy that includes works by Beatus of Liébana, one of the greatest exponents of medieval Christianity in Europe.

Santo Toribio de Liébana - Cantabria is much more than a religious event; it is a celebration of heritage and an opportunity to promote values such as the environment and the Region's cultural connection,” highlights Luis Martínez Abad, Regional Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sport of the Autonomous Community of Cantabria.
