In the Dominican Republic, tourism, commerce and agriculture are the sectors with the lowest wages

The ONE registers that 2.4 million formal jobs are in charge of 104,031 companies.
The tourism industry, commerce and agriculture are the pillars of the economy, due to their generation of employment, investment and their contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP) of the Dominican Republic.
The National Statistics Office (ONE) indicates that the average monthly salary in these companies is RD$26,402, however, accommodation and food service activities are the lowest, with RD$13,453. This is followed by agriculture, livestock, forestry and fishing with a salary of RD$16,337, just RD$1,917 less than commerce (RD$18,254).
But, the state entity highlights that the economic activity that pays the highest salary is the "supply of electricity", with RD$51,291, followed by organizations and extraterritorial bodies (RD$43,784), mining and quarrying (RD$27,051) and information and communications (RD$26,681).
Meanwhile, financial and insurance activities report a monthly salary of RD$25,885, 18.4% more than the RD$21,834 in construction and 20.7% more than real estate operations (RD$21,445). Meanwhile, the manufacturing sector reports a remuneration of RD$19,404.
Sustainable growth
Formal businesses amounted to 104,031 in June 2023, or 107.9% more than the 96,377 businesses registered in January. In absolute terms it was 7,654.
32.3% of the companies have their operations in commerce, followed by 10.2% based on professional, scientific and technical activities and 7% in manufacturing industries. In smaller numbers, construction (6.9%); accommodation and food service activities (6.6%); agriculture, livestock, forestry and fishing (2.1%).
Analysing the data, in January 2023, 2,363,005 formal jobs were reported and in June it closed at 2,406,864, which shows that 43,856 jobs were created in the first six months of the year. When broken down by gender, men hold 1,281,099 jobs, while women hold 1,125,765, for a slight difference of 155,334 jobs.
