The Executive Secretary of the National Institute for Tourism Promotion (Inprotur), Ricardo Sosa, revealed that the Argentine Republic has already received 5 million foreign tourists from January to 20 September 2023 and produced an economic impact of more than 3.7 billion dollars, highlighting some markets that are already sending more tourists than in the pre-pandemic period and others even with historical records.

Sosa chaired a new Inprotur board meeting, with the participation of representatives of the Argentine Chamber of Tourism, the Federal Council of Tourism and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, where he gave statistical details of the behaviour of the foreign tourist issuing markets to Argentina as a result of the international tourism promotion work carried out by the Institute.

In this context, it can be mentioned that Uruguay leads the ranking as the main tourist issuing market with 1,018,624 tourists, followed by Brazil with 955,000, Chile with 934,233, Paraguay with 387,396 and completes the top 5 United States with 375,251 tourists arriving in Argentina.

Sosa specified that in the case of Uruguay it is the second best historical record and these eight and a half months of 2023 have already surpassed the entire number of tourists received in 2019 (799,510). In this context, there are currently active promotional campaigns in cinemas and on public roads in that country.

In the case of Brazil, the months of July, August and the first half of September 2023 compared to the same period in 2019, show that not only did the tourist movement fully recover, but it also grew above the pre-pandemic period, with 105%, 104% and 126% respectively. In addition, Brazil is the main issuer of tourists by air and it is estimated that it will exceed one million arrivals by all entry routes by the end of September. In Brazil, Inprotur has carried out more than 40 face-to-face promotional activities, the last one last week with a trade mission attended by more than 170 Brazilian tour operators and travel agencies that made commercial agreements with more than 25 Argentinean businessmen. And next week, Argentina will be present at the Abav Fair in Rio de Janeiro where it plans to attend with more than 50 businessmen, destinations, entities and representatives of regional chambers of tourism.

Regarding the Chilean market, Sosa reported that the 934,233 Chilean visitors represent a recovery and growth of 115% over pre-pandemic levels, projecting that by the end of September the number of tourists will exceed one million; since March, month after month, Chile has been registering higher figures than in 2019 and is also the main issuer by land (116% vs. 2019). Inprotur is currently running a strong campaign in Santiago with the themes "A un paso" and "Viajero inteligente" (Smart traveller).

With reference to the U.S. market, he noted that the 375,251 tourists entered represent a 114% vs. 2019. This means that the market fully recovered and grew, something that happened in the comparative of all the months of 2023. Throughout the year, Inprotur has been developing a strong positioning of the country, with the presence of activations to the final public in the most popular sports competitions. In addition, trade missions have been organised in New York, Chicago, Miami and Los Angeles, among others.
