Tourism's economic contribution could grow by $168 billion in Africa in 10 years

The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), in collaboration with VFS Global, has revealed that the tourism sector could contribute an additional $168 billion to the African continent's economy, as well as create more than 18 million new jobs over the next 10 years. This is contained in the report 'Unlocking Opportunities for Travel and Tourism Growth in Africa'.

According to the document, these data depend on three key policies, which, if implemented, could unlock year-on-year growth of 6.5%, reaching a total contribution to the economy of more than $350 billion. The three measures in question focus on:

"Africa's travel and tourism sector has witnessed an extraordinary transformation. In just two decades, its value has more than doubled, contributing significantly to the continent's economy," said Julia Simpson, president and CEO of WTTC, during the organization's global summit, held in Kigali, Rwanda, November 1-3.
