Mexico's Ministry of Tourism rectifies in record time: Tianguis 2024 stays in Acapulco

The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, informed that, thanks to the work of the Government of Mexico, the Government of the State of Guerrero and the commitment of the private sector, it was decided that the Tianguis Turístico México 2024 will be held in the port of Acapulco, from April 8 to 12 next year.

At the head of the Extraordinary Session of the Selection Committee of the Tianguis Turístico México 2024, the head of the Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) highlighted that in the face of the arrival of the devastating Hurricane Otis, which inexplicably went from a tropical storm to a Category 5 hurricane, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador gave a forceful response with the Economic Program that contains 20 points for the rescue of Acapulco, providing, in principle, 61.3 billion pesos.He stressed that points of view and opinions of local businessmen and national leaders were also exchanged, so that together this decision was taken, with the purpose of further supporting the population, service providers and all sectors in general, making an unprecedented effort, to carry out the 48th edition of the Tianguis Turístico México 2024 Acapulco.

"This decision, like all those we have made known by the Ministry of Tourism in the current administration, have the support of the President of the Republic and the cabinet as a whole. Therefore, I invite you to work hand in hand to achieve our objective. Unity and solidarity are fundamental in difficult moments such as those caused by this meteor," he declared.

Torruco Marqués stated that the joint and collaborative response is key to the recovery and reconstruction of the affected areas in Acapulco. Therefore, the collaboration between the three levels of government, the private sector and the population as a whole is fundamental to achieve success in the recovery after natural disasters such as hurricanes.

He stated that in the coming weeks he will be in Guerrero to verify the prevailing situation, and continue working hand in hand with the state government and the private sector to achieve the rapid recovery of Acapulco, and instructed the general director of Tourist Services Angeles Verdes, Alejandro Zuniga Bernal, to integrate 10 new units to Acapulco.

"The quick and effective response by the president, and the results obtained in a short period of time, inspires us and serves as a motivator for the community, fostering a collective commitment to rebuild and support those who have been affected. The solidarity and determination of society and government in difficult times demonstrate the strength and resilience of the Mexican people," he said.

The Secretary of Tourism indicated that with the Tianguis Turístico México 2024 in Acapulco, we will show the world our ability to overcome adverse situations and thus have the opportunity to highlight the beauty and attractions of the country, despite the difficulties.

"Acapulco will shine again as in the best of times, and will continue, through its talented tourism service providers and the private sector as a whole, to give domestic and foreign tourists, as well as Mexican society, great satisfaction," concluded Torruco Marqués.

For her part, the governor of Guerrero, Evelyn Salgado Pineda, emphasized that the beautiful port of Acapulco will soon be ready, reborn, strengthened and beautiful, to receive the most important tourist festival in Mexico, which was born in this great destination.

The business leaders of the tourism sector described as right, and congratulated, the decision that the Tianguis Turístico México 2024 will stay in Acapulco to boost the economy, jobs and tourism, and reiterated their commitment to take on this important challenge.
