Cuzco will host the Skål International World Congress in 2025, a meeting where the highest authorities of the World Tourism Organization meet to address the challenges of the tourism industry, an announcement that the Peruvian Minister of Culture, Leslie Urteaga, described as "great news".

"This is great news because our country and especially Cuzco, the navel of the world, is going to receive an international event of such importance for tourism and culture," said the minister in a statement released.

This morning in Malaga, a city in southern Spain, where the congress is being held this week, the news was announced that the ancient Inca capital will be the next venue, beating the bids of New York and Christchurch (in New Zealand).

"It is a historic event because we will host for the first time this event, which brings together the most important tourism professionals and business leaders in the world, and because it returns to South America after 30 years," said the minister.

She added that it will be a great occasion to showcase Peru's cultural diversity, heritage and attractions such as Machu Picchu, "for which we are working to preserve for future generations."

"In this way, our country and Cuzco, will become the epicenter of world tourism in 2025, with the arrival of the most important tourism professionals and business leaders from around the world," added the Ministry of Culture.

The organization will be in charge of the Skål International Cuzco Club, which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary and is presided by María del Pilar Salas.

Skål was founded in 1934, encompasses all branches of the tourism industry, has a presence in 76 countries and 12,518 members from around the world, including executives and leaders in various segments of the sector who meet locally, nationally, regionally and internationally.
