Emirates digitises boarding passes

16-05-23

Going a step further in its drive to offer customers the convenience and security of digital travel, Emirates will require most passengers departing Dubai to use a mobile boarding pass instead of a paper version from 15 May.

Passengers checking in at Terminal 3 will receive their mobile boarding pass by email or SMS. Passengers checking in online will be able to upload their boarding pass to their Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, or retrieve it on the easy-to-use Emirates app. The checked baggage receipt is also emailed directly to passengers, or available on the Emirates app.

This initiative will significantly reduce paper waste while providing a convenient and fast digitalised check-in experience for passengers departing from Dubai. It reduces the risk of boarding pass loss or misplacement, giving passengers peace of mind during their journey.

The mobile boarding pass can be used throughout the journey: at Dubai Duty Free, at the security checkpoint and for boarding, simply by showing the boarding pass on the phone. Emirates agents and airport staff will simply scan the QR code on the mobile boarding pass as passengers move through the airport and board the aircraft.

Some passengers may still need to print a physical boarding pass, for example, if they are travelling with infants, unaccompanied minors, passengers requiring special assistance, passengers with connecting flights on other airlines and all passengers travelling on flights to the US.

The option to print a boarding pass is available upon request to Emirates agents at check-in counters, if passengers do not have a mobile device, or if they are unable to access information on their devices for reasons such as: running out of battery power, a system breakdown or failure, delayed message delivery, or inability to access WIFI, network or data.

Millions of Emirates passengers already enjoy the convenience of digital travel. In addition to the convenience of check-in and itinerary management, Emirates app users can also access digital menus in advance and spend time creating a playlist of their favourite movies, TV shows and music playlists available on Ice, which they can sync from their app at the time of boarding to save time.

Hassle-free biometric travel in Dubai

Registered passengers can now enjoy a seamless travel experience at Dubai International Airport, where they can use biometric machines or smart gates to pass through various airport stations.

UAE residents can register to use the smart gates at Emirates Terminal 3 and speed up their passage through Immigration each time they return to Dubai. UAE citizens and residents can use their passport, boarding pass or valid UAE ID, while GCC nationals or visa-on-arrival visitors can pass through the Smart Gates with a biometric passport.
