CAF creates Tourism Directorate to boost development and employment

CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, announces the creation of the Directorate of Tourism, which will be located in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with the purpose of supporting its member countries, governments and entrepreneurs, in the use of their tourism potential as an important factor for development and employment generation, with emphasis on environmental, social, cultural and economic sustainability; innovation, regeneration and inclusion.

CAF's Executive President, Sergio Díaz-Granados, highlighted the growth potential of the sector and the synergies that can be promoted: "This new Directorate means not only a further strengthening of relations between the institution and the Dominican Republic, but also a new contribution to the sustainable development and integration of our partners through tourism and the promotion of a dynamic work agenda with the public and private sectors throughout Latin America and the Caribbean to contribute to such an important engine for the generation of employment and foreign exchange and the welfare of our people".

The Directorate of Tourism will be headed by Oscar Rueda García, who has a distinguished career in the world of tourism, which shows the importance that the organisation wants to give to this sector. 

Oscar Rueda is a lawyer from the Universidad Javeriana de Bogotá, with a Master's degree in Spanish-American Literature from the University of Barcelona; he has held positions in the sector such as President of the Colombian Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (Anato), Deputy Minister of Tourism for more than 6 years, President of the World Federation of Travel Agencies Associations and member of the Executive Committee of the UNWTO for 4 years. He also served as Ambassador of Colombia to the People's Republic of China.
