Celso Sabino takes over Brazil's Ministry of Tourism

The federal deputy for the state of Pará Celso Sabino is Brazil's new Minister of Tourism. The nomination was published this Friday in the Official Journal of the Union. Born in Belém, the deputy is 44 years old and has a degree in Law and Administration.

A tax auditor who was hired by the State Finance Secretariat (SEFA), Celso Sabino began public life serving as a State Deputy in 2011 and 2012 and, subsequently, between 2015 and 2018. He also served as Secretary of State for Labour, Employment and Income - 2012 and 2013 - and president of the Metrology Institute of the State of Pará (IMETROPARÁ) between 2013 and 2014.

He was elected Federal Deputy in 2018 and 2022. His work in the Chamber of Deputies focused mainly on issues related to the economy, taxation and regional development. Sabino was rapporteur of the Income Tax reform in the Chamber of Deputies in 2021, playing an important role in the discussion and drafting of the bill.

In 2022, the then deputy was elected, by acclamation, as the new president of the Joint Budget Commission (CMO). Celso Sabino was the first Parense to chair the Commission.

Tax reform

During the discussion of the text of the Tax Reform in the Chamber of Deputies, the then deputy asked the rapporteur of the reform, deputy Aguinaldo Ribeiro, to include in the text a 50% reduction in the rate of taxes applied to tourism.
