Since Uber landed in the Dominican Republic in 2015, more than 600,000 tourists have used its app to travel within the country, covering more than 40 million kilometres. Despite the different stages the company has gone through in the destination, with disputes with taxi drivers and the mediation of the Dominican government itself, it has managed to establish itself and cover a large demand for tourist road transport.

According to local newspaper Bávaro Digital, the route most requested by foreign customers in the Caribbean country has been to or from Las Américas International Airport, the main airport in Santo Domingo and the second largest in terms of passenger volume in the country, after Punta Cana International Airport. Uber-registered vehicles have made more than 900,000 of these trips.

The same media reports that tourists from the United States, Colombia, Mexico, Canada and Brazil are the most frequent users of the app when visiting the Dominican Republic. Among the most requested destinations are: Multicentro Churchill, the Colonial City and the Sheraton Santo Domingo Hotel. In 94% of trips, drivers rate tourists with a 5-star rating.

"At Uber we seek to transform the way tourists and locals explore and enjoy the Dominican Republic. We want to complement and boost the tourism ecosystem, and provide access to a world of convenience at the touch of a button," said Uber's Communications Manager for Central America and the Caribbean, Carolina Coto.
