Peru: Machu Picchu finally reopens to tourism

The Sanctuary of Machu Picchu will reopen on Wednesday 15 February 2023, under the same conditions, opening hours and established circuits, after having made a joint commitment with the institutions that make up the Machu Picchu Management Unit (UGM), municipal authorities of Machu Picchu and Ollantaytambo, directors of the Chamber of Commerce and leaders of social organisations, to guarantee the safety of the monument and transport services, so that visitors can enjoy the experience of the visit.

To this end, the Head of the National Archaeological Park of Machu Picchu has been asked to take the necessary measures to ensure the safety of visitors.

This decision responds to the need for dialogue and peace, in the framework of the articulated work between the authorities and the population, which requires the resumption of cultural activity and the economic reactivation of Cusco.
