Inkaterra hotels start welcoming visitors again after Machu Picchu's reopening

27-02-23

The Inkaterra brand's iconic hotels have begun welcoming guests back to the Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel. On 15 February, Machu Picchu, Peru's most visited attraction and one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World, reopened its doors to travellers.

"This is very encouraging news," says José Koechlin, founder and CEO of Inkaterra. "The Ministry of Culture confirmed the visit of 700 travellers to the iconic Inca citadel as soon as it opened its doors. We already see foreign tourists travelling from Cusco and the Sacred Valley to arguably the most important archaeological site in South America."

Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel, with 214 species of birds and 372 species of native orchids recorded in its lush gardens, is the largest property in Machu Picchu Pueblo/Agua Calientes, the mountaintop village from which the site is accessed. Other elements of Peru's traditional circuit include two additional exclusive Inkaterra properties: the boutique Inkaterra La Casona in Cusco, Peru's first Relais & Châteaux, and the lavish Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba amidst verdant mountains and harvest fields in the Sacred Valley. On a tributary of the Amazon, in Puerto Maldonado, the Inkaterra Reserva Amazónica is also operating normally.

"We see the light at the end of the tunnel with regard to the political situation in Peru," Koechlin said. "We hope that the flow of tourists will soon return to normal, as we firmly believe that authentic travel is the path to a promising future with many opportunities for all Peruvians, and the most efficient way to preserve our greatest treasure: an unparalleled cultural and natural diversity."

Inkaterra and five of its hotels are also registered in the Travel Leisure World's Best Awards 2023.

Mr. José Koechlin announced that five Inkaterra Hotels properties (Inkaterra La Casona, Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba, Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel, Inkaterra Hacienda Concepción & Inkaterra Reserva Amazónica) are on the shortlist for the Travel Leisure World's Best Awards 2023, as well as Inkaterra Hotels in the "hotel brand" category.
