Beijing on the verge of being the world's leading tourist destination

The Chinese city is on its way to absolute success, although it was delayed last year by the local government's Covid zero policy,

Paris is now the most attractive tourist destination in the world. It has been for years. But according to the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), data trends suggest that Beijing, the Chinese capital, will soon overtake the French capital (China reopens its borders after almost three years of isolation).

The study of this data, carried out by Oxford Economics and financed by Visa, indicates that the Chinese city is on the road to absolute success, although this last year was delayed by the local government's Covid zero policy.

This study includes the preferences of tourists and also looks at the employment generated by this sector in specific locations. In China, there are four cities at the top of this race: Beijing, of course; Shanghai, Chengdu and Guangzhou. The number of tourism workers in each of these cities is close to 1.5 million, collectively generating up to $15 billion in revenue for the economy as a whole.

Even before the pandemic, it was predictable that Chinese destinations, but particularly the capital, could overtake Paris. However, for the last three years this was frozen by the chaotic situation that ensued. Today, however, China's recovery is picking up again and the WTTC expects Beijing to overtake Paris in a few more months.
