Global technology-driven travel distribution company, DidaTravel, announces the return of Chinese tourists during the May Day holidays. With the relaxation of Chinese travel restrictions and the increased availability of vaccines, Chinese travellers are eager to explore the world once again.

Bookings in China for overseas travel continue to recover rapidly. According to recent data, international hotel bookings by Chinese travellers for the upcoming May Day holiday, for which many people in China take 5 days off from 29 April to 3 May, have increased 30-fold year-on-year, exceeding pre-pandemic 2019 volumes by 18%. The ADR of Chinese international hotel bookings has also increased by 47% year-on-year, reaching 95% of its 2019 level. In addition, the average international length of an international hotel stay is around 2 nights over the May Day holiday, in line with pre-pandemic data.

As of 20 April, the top 20 most booked international destinations for Chinese tourists during the May Day holiday were Thailand, Malaysia, United States, Indonesia, Japan, Philippines, UAE, Singapore, Vietnam, Australia, United Kingdom, South Korea, Italy, Spain, France, Turkey, Canada, Germany, Brazil and the Netherlands. These destinations offer a wide variety of attractions and experiences, from beautiful beaches and natural spaces to cultural attractions and world-renowned shopping. The significant growth in Chinese outbound tourism during the May Day holidays will be an important driver of recovery for the wider restaurant, hospitality, aviation and logistics sectors.

Rikin Wu, CEO and Founder of DidaTravel, comments: "We are delighted to see the return of Chinese outbound travel during the May Day holidays. It is a testament to the pent-up demand for international travel in China, and we are honoured to play our part in responding to the needs of the Chinese outbound market.  Our company is dedicated to providing safe, affordable and enjoyable travel experiences to Chinese travellers. We look forward to working closely with our partners around the world and preparing to welcome more and more Chinese travellers in the coming months and years."
