During 2022 the supply of luxury accommodation was the tourism category with the highest growth in Italy, 12.0 percent compared to 2019, and this year is expected to exceed that result, a report indicates today.

An analysis by the Italian National Association of Tourism (ENIT), released Thursday by the specialised digital site Guida Viaggi, points out that luxury visitors from abroad exceeded three million in the past year, with an average expenditure of four thousand euros per person.

The study, released during the Duco Travel event, which takes place from 27 to 31 of this month at the St. Regis & The Westin Excelsior hotel in the northern city of Florence, points out that in this country the segment already occupies about seven million overnight stays per year.

Maria Elena Rossi, ENIT's market director, told the event that the estimated average increase until 2024 is 26.0 percent in domestic luxury tourism revenues, as well as 31.0 percentage points as a result of international luxury tourism.

The high-end traveller is paying increasing attention to eco-sustainable destinations, particularly five-star hotels with advanced technology in environmentally harmonious surroundings and "the focus is on the concept of luxury as the authenticity of the Italian experience of excellence," the source added..
