According to the Mexican official, the preliminary sales report was 1.24 billion pesos (about 68.5 million dollars), 87% more than the 2022 edition; although it only included what was generated by 23% of the companies that attended the event's venue, the Citibanamex Centre, in the west of Mexico City.
"We also surpassed the historical record of participating countries with 90 nations including Mexico thus surpassing the record held in Acapulco in the 42nd edition of 2017 which was 88 nations. Finally, the number of registered appointments was 88,432. These figures will still tend to grow at the close of today. Surpassing the previous record of 64,950, that is, we grew in appointments by 36%. Of the 88,432 scheduled appointments, 53 % have already concluded their hard sales.
In short, all possible records were broken and if the results are measured in terms of business appointments, participation of buyers and nations, the Tianguis 2023 has already had a historic scope," said the Mexican Secretary of Tourism.
For this edition, the Citibanamex Centre occupied an area of 34,000 square metres to house 802 suites, which represented an increase of 38% compared to last year's 582 and which allowed the 32 states that make up the country to be accommodated.
The most popular products offered by exhibitors, Torruco explained, were cultural tourism (51%), nature (42%), adventure (35%), sun and beach (35%), gastronomy (32%) and meetings (31%).
The destinations with the greatest interest, he added, were Cancún (46 %), Playa del Carmen (41 %), Riviera Maya (39 %), Los Cabos (30 %), Puerto Vallarta (20 %), Mérida (28 %), Nayarit (28 %), Guadalajara and Oaxaca (26 %) and the Pueblos Mágicos as a whole (25 %).
"Of course I thank the Sectur teams both in Mexico City and at the federal level because we brought them from 5 o'clock in the morning until late at night. Many thanks to each and every one of the personalities, to the people who made this historic 47th edition of the Tianguis possible. See you in Acapulco, from Monday 11 to Friday 15 March in the great port of Acapulco," concluded Secretary Torruco.
