A report to help businesses understand and manage their impact on biodiversity

The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has released a new report that shows how travel and tourism can play a critical role in halting and reversing the destruction of nature.

The report, which will help businesses understand and manage their impact on biodiversity, is launched ahead of the UN Biodiversity Conference (COP15) in December, where global governments will finalise actions to transform society's relationship with nature, and offers new hope for global nature conservation.

Nature Positive Travel & Tourism', created jointly with Animondial and global companies within the sector, has also been endorsed by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD).

Nature-based tourism accounts for 20% of travel

Travel and tourism companies are in a unique position to take positive action and, through nature-based solutions and decarbonisation, achieve Net Zero.

With nature-based tourism accounting for 20% of travel, the report shows how crucial nature is to destinations around the world.

Julia Simpson, president and CEO of WTTC, says: "Human activity has resulted in a devastating loss of natural habitat and biodiversity, with one in four species at risk of extinction". "Travel & Tourism is uniquely positioned to make a real difference. With 80% of travel and tourism heavily dependent on nature, it is crucial that we take a proactive role in advancing nature conservation".
