12-10-22
Valencia will host the World Tourism Film Awards for the second year running. In its 34th edition, the event will bring together personalities from the tourism and audiovisual industry in the city to receive the prestigious awards and titles of the world's best tourism films. The awards ceremony will be held on 24th November at the CaixaForum, located in the architectural complex of the City of Arts and Sciences.
Organised by the International Committee of Tourism Film Festivals (CIFFT) and Visit València, the World's Tourism Film Awards recognise creative excellence in audiovisual tourism productions. The competition will reward the best promotional films in five thematic categories: Tourist Destination City, Region, Country, Tourism Products and Services.
Emiliano García Domene, Councillor for Tourism and Internationalisation of Valencia City Council, stated that "Valencia is committed to an increasingly digital, dynamic and personalised promotion, through which we project our identity and creative capacity, and in which audiovisual content is becoming more and more important. For this reason, we are very proud that the organisation of the CIFFT awards has chosen our city to once again present the awards for the best videos of tourism promotion campaigns". He also pointed out that "thanks to this gala, Valencia will host the best tourism promotion professionals and we will have the opportunity to show them how the city has become, in 2022, the World Design Capital and the European Capital of Smart Tourism".
Following the successful collaboration between CIFFT and Visit València to announce the winners in 2021, this 34th edition marks the first time that the event adopts a live format outside Vienna. For Alexander V. Kammel, Director of CIFFT, "In recent years, Valencia has consistently demonstrated its potential and is now in the spotlight as a global benchmark for tourism innovation and sustainability. We are honoured to partner with Visit València to bring the World Tourism Film Awards 2022 to this vibrant city that combines a rich artistic, architectural, gastronomic and cultural heritage."
Valencia has recently positioned itself as a MICE destination of excellence, attracting major international events. The World Tourism Film Awards coincide with another UNWTO-funded event, the third World Conference on Smart Destinations.
This open forum will discuss the opportunities and challenges for tourism destinations, the solutions they need to remain competitive and sustainable, and how technology and innovation applied to the tourism sector are driving structural change. This meeting is also an opportunity to raise awareness of how the audiovisual industry can provide tourism revenues and long-term prosperity for destinations and the importance of innovation in tourism communication.
To win the title of World's Best Tourism Film, more than 3,000 promotional videos from 90 countries participated in the CIFFT Circuit, a year-long competition with ten festival members from four continents: New York, Cannes, Los Angeles, Vienna, Cape Town and Kyoto, among others.
The World Tourism Film Awards are supported by the World Tourism Organization, the European Travel Commission, the Caribbean Tourism Organization, the Central American Tourism Organization and Skal International. The initiative is also supported by the Tourism and Society Think Tank (TSTT).
