In this city that is only a few kilometres away from the modern city of Tampa, you will discover situations where the effort and work of its inhabitants is mixed with the enjoyment of dream beaches, and leisure centres that will make the visitor discover a territory full of life but also of peace.
St. Petersburg is located on the coast of Tampa Bay, in the county of Pinellas (Florida), and is part of the Tampa Bay area, a city located on the other side of the bay, opposite the city of Tampa.
It enjoys a humid subtropical climate, characterised by hot, humid summers and mild winters. It is a popular destination for snowbirds (people migrating from colder regions during the winter months) due to its pleasant winter climate, and for travellers seeking the authenticity of a different kind of destination with a top tourist offer.
The waterfront area of the city is a focal point, with parks, marinas and a picturesque downtown. The St. Petersburg waterfront is a landmark offering a variety of recreational activities, shops, restaurants and beautiful views of the bay.
Nearby are two institutions of higher learning, including the University of South Florida St. Petersburg and St. Petersburg College.

St. Petersburg Museum of History
On our visit we were fortunate to meet Nevin D. Sitler, MA, Curator and Historian of the Museum, accompanied by Rui Farias, Executive Director of the Museum.
This museum is dedicated to preserving and displaying the history of St. Petersburg and the surrounding area. It is housed in the historic Pioneer Building and features exhibits covering various aspects of the city's past, such as Native American heritage, aviation history, etc.
The museum features a variety of exhibits covering different aspects of the region's history, such as Native American heritage, early settlement, growth as a city and contributions to various industries and fields. Visitors can explore artefacts, photographs, documents and interactive exhibits that provide information about the city's past.
One of the museum's most prominent exhibits is "The World's First Commercial Airline", which highlights St. Petersburg's role in the history of aviation. It shows the history of the world's first regular commercial airline, which operated between St. Petersburg and Tampa in 1914.
The museum building itself has historical significance. It is housed in a historic building in St. Petersburg, the "Pioneer Building", built in 1923. The architecture of the building contributes to the overall experience of stepping back in time and learning about the history of the city.

Fairgrounds St. - Arts District of St. Petersburg
The St. Petersburg Arts District is home to numerous galleries, studios and public art installations. The district exhibits a wide range of visual arts, from traditional to contemporary.

The Sunken Gardens
On our visit to the city, we can't forget The Sunken Gardens, a historic botanical garden, very popular with locals and visitors to the city.
The Sunken Gardens was founded in the 1930s and is one of the oldest tourist attractions in the United States. It was originally a drained lake converted into a garden by George Turner, a plumber and avid gardener. The gardens were opened to the public in 1935.
The garden features a unique sunken design, after which it is named. . The garden features meandering paths that lead visitors through a variety of plant species, including tropical plants, flowering trees, cascading vines and vibrant flowers. The central feature of the gardens is a sunken area that offers a different perspective of the surrounding vegetation.
Visitors can explore lush tropical plants, exotic flowers, aquatic features and a variety of wildlife. The garden is known for its collection of more than 50,000 tropical plants, including orchids, palms, ferns, etc.
In addition to plants, the Sunken Gardens are home to flamingos, turtles and other animals. The garden paths lead visitors through different themed areas, such as the Japanese, butterfly, cactus and so on.
The Sunken Gardens organise various events, workshops and educational programmes for visitors of all ages. It has been restored to preserve its historical and natural beauty.
It should also be noted that the gardens are wheelchair accessible, and guided tours are available for those interested in learning more about the garden's history and plant collection.
The gardens house a varied collection of tropical and subtropical plants from around the world, such as orchids, bromeliads, palms, etc., and are home to Chilean flamingos. These beautiful birds contribute to the unique and vibrant ambience of the garden, as well as a butterfly garden designed to attract and support local butterfly species.
They also include a serene koi pond where visitors can enjoy watching the colourful koi fish swim.
The gardens also feature historical elements such as statues, fountains and a wishing well, which add to the charm of the place.
