St. Petersburg, often referred to as "St. Pete", is a city located on the west coast of Florida (United States of America). It is the city of sun, culture, art and life. In this city that is only a few kilometres away from the modern city of Tampa, you will discover situations where the effort and work of its inhabitants is mixed with the enjoyment of dream beaches, and leisure centres that will make the visitor discover a territory full of life but also of peace.

St. Petersburg is located on the coast of Tampa Bay, in the county of Pinellas (Florida), and is part of the Tampa Bay area, a city located on the other side of the bay, opposite the city of Tampa.

It enjoys a humid subtropical climate, characterised by hot, humid summers and mild winters. It is a popular destination for snowbirds (people migrating from colder regions during the winter months) due to its pleasant winter climate, and for travellers seeking the authenticity of a different kind of destination with a top tourist offer.

The waterfront area of the city is a focal point, with parks, marinas and a picturesque downtown. The St. Petersburg waterfront is a landmark offering a variety of recreational activities, shops, restaurants and beautiful views of the bay.

Nearby are two institutions of higher learning, including the University of South Florida St. Petersburg and St. Petersburg College.

The city's economy is diverse, with industries such as tourism, healthcare, education and marine sciences. The city's proximity to the Gulf of Mexico has contributed to its marine-related industries.

St. Petersburg has a rich history dating back to its founding in the late 19th century, and has since experienced periods of growth and development, especially during the Florida real estate boom of the 1920s.

Today, the city's population is diverse, with a mix of residents from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

The city is known for its beautiful beaches, such as St. Pete Beach and Clearwater Beach, but also for cultural icons such as the Salvador Dali Museum, whose collection of works by the famous surrealist artist is a major cultural attraction. 

St. Petersburg has a vibrant arts and cultural scene, with numerous art galleries, theatres and music venues. The city hosts events such as the St Petersburg Arts Festival and the St Petersburg Jazz Festival. St. Petersburg Museum of History

On our visit we were fortunate to meet Nevin D. Sitler, MA, Curator and Historian of the Museum, accompanied by Rui Farias, Executive Director of the Museum.

This museum is dedicated to preserving and displaying the history of St. Petersburg and the surrounding area. It is housed in the historic Pioneer Building and features exhibits covering various aspects of the city's past, such as Native American heritage, aviation history, etc.

The museum features a variety of exhibits covering different aspects of the region's history, such as Native American heritage, early settlement, growth as a city and contributions to various industries and fields. Visitors can explore artefacts, photographs, documents and interactive exhibits that provide information about the city's past.

One of the museum's most prominent exhibits is "The World's First Commercial Airline", which highlights St. Petersburg's role in the history of aviation. It shows the history of the world's first regular commercial airline, which operated between St. Petersburg and Tampa in 1914.

The museum building itself has historical significance. It is housed in a historic building in St. Petersburg, the "Pioneer Building", built in 1923. The architecture of the building contributes to the overall experience of stepping back in time and learning about the history of the city.

Salvador Dali Museum

The Salvador Dali Museum is a renowned attraction in St. Petersburg, which houses the largest collection of works by the famous surrealist artist Salvador Dali outside Spain. The museum's unique architecture and impressive collection of Dali's works make it a must-see for art lovers.

Often referred to simply as "The Dali Museum", it is a leading cultural institution located in St. Petersburg, and is dedicated to exhibiting the works of the famous Spanish surrealist artist Salvador Dali. 

Located in close proximity to the St. Petersburg Museum of History, at 1 Dali Blvd, St. Petersburg, FL 33701, the museum's collection includes paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, photographs and other objects spanning Dali's entire artistic career. It offers visitors a complete and immersive experience of Dalí's unique and imaginative world.

Upon visiting, the first thing that strikes you is the museum building itself, an architectural masterpiece designed by Yann Weymouth of the HOK architectural firm. It features a distinctive geodesic glass bubble known as the 'enigma' that houses the museum's collection and protects it from the elements while allowing natural light to illuminate the works of art.

The museum's permanent collection features more than 2,000 works by Salvador Dalí, including iconic pieces such as "The Persistence of Memory", "The Hallucinogenic Bullfighter" and "The Discovery of America by Christopher Columbus". The collection offers an insight into Dalí's surreal and often dreamlike artistic style.

In addition to its permanent collection, the museum hosts temporary exhibitions, educational programmes, lectures and events that explore Dalí's art, influences and legacy. There are also interactive experiences and multimedia exhibitions that enhance the understanding of Dalí's creative process and the symbolism of his works.

Fairgrounds St. - Arts District of St. Petersburg

The St. Petersburg Arts District is home to numerous galleries, studios and public art installations. The district exhibits a wide range of visual arts, from traditional to contemporary.

The word "fairgrounds" is a play on words that refers to our mission to give back to artists fairly, while providing them with a uniquely immersive platform for creative expression.

We visited the cultural space thanks to Lindsay Collore, Marketing Associate of the cultural space where everyone is invited to explore an immersive world of playful art and technology exhibitions based on original Florida stories.

The Sunken Gardens

On our visit to the city, we can't forget The Sunken Gardens, a historic botanical garden, very popular with locals and visitors to the city.

The Sunken Gardens was founded in the 1930s and is one of the oldest tourist attractions in the United States. It was originally a drained lake converted into a garden by George Turner, a plumber and avid gardener. The gardens were opened to the public in 1935.

The garden features a unique sunken design, after which it is named. . The garden features meandering paths that lead visitors through a variety of plant species, including tropical plants, flowering trees, cascading vines and vibrant flowers. The central feature of the gardens is a sunken area that offers a different perspective of the surrounding vegetation.

Visitors can explore lush tropical plants, exotic flowers, aquatic features and a variety of wildlife. The garden is known for its collection of more than 50,000 tropical plants, including orchids, palms, ferns, etc.

In addition to plants, the Sunken Gardens are home to flamingos, turtles and other animals. The garden paths lead visitors through different themed areas, such as the Japanese, butterfly, cactus and so on.

The Sunken Gardens organise various events, workshops and educational programmes for visitors of all ages. It has been restored to preserve its historical and natural beauty.

It should also be noted that the gardens are wheelchair accessible, and guided tours are available for those interested in learning more about the garden's history and plant collection.

The gardens house a varied collection of tropical and subtropical plants from around the world, such as orchids, bromeliads, palms, etc., and are home to Chilean flamingos. These beautiful birds contribute to the unique and vibrant ambience of the garden, as well as a butterfly garden designed to attract and support local butterfly species.

They also include a serene koi pond where visitors can enjoy watching the colourful koi fish swim.

The gardens also feature historical elements such as statues, fountains and a wishing well, which add to the charm of the place.

The Sunken Gardens provide a tranquil getaway within the city, offering visitors the opportunity to explore and enjoy the beauty of nature.
