Fernando Olivera
He holds a degree in Tourism Business Administration from the Universidad Anáhuac, in Mexico, a Master's degree in International Marketing and Commercial Management from the Instituto de Empresas de Madrid, Spain; he is also a Doctoral Candidate in Tourism from the World Tourism Organization and the Universidad Antonio de Nebrija, in Madrid, Spain, and recently received the title of Doctor of Doctors for his professional career from the Claustro Doctoral Honoris Causa, in recognition of his professional career.
In 2021, he received the investiture as Knight of the Order of the Camino de Santiago, in Spain.
He has professional experience in the private sector in the provision of tourism, hotel and restaurant services in transnational chains such as Howard Johnson, Days Inn, Tony Roma's and RCI International.
As a public official, Fernando Olivera has held various positions in the Federal Government, including Federal Undersecretary of Tourism Operations.
He was also part of the team that founded the office of the Mexican Tourism Promotion Board in Madrid, where he was its Director for several years.
He was one of the main collaborators in the creation of the National Agreement for Tourism, a fundamental axis for Mexico's new tourism policy.
In 2012 he was appointed Secretary of Tourism of the State of Guanajuato, implementing a successful public policy to place the state as the fifth most visited in the country and thus consolidate Guanajuato as the Cultural Destination of Mexico. In addition to a large number of national and international awards and recognitions, such as the Gold Medal of Tourism awarded by the Xunta de Galicia, he is the winner of the Ulysses Award 2017, the highest award granted by the United Nations World Tourism Organization; that same year he was also recognised with the Star of Tourism Award 2017, awarded by the World Tourism Organization for his personal trajectory.
During this period, he was President of the National Association of Secretaries of Tourism of Mexico during the 2017 - 2018 term, thus consolidating a career of credibility, leadership and experience to channel efforts for the benefit of all the States of the country at the head of this important association.
He currently leads the Ministry of Tourism of Tamaulipas, where he has carried out a work of development and positioning both nationally and internationally of the State as the Surprise of Mexico, due to its vast wealth of attractions, achieving at the International Tourism Fair in Madrid the Tourist Excellence Award in 2019 and 2020.
