1. Tartu (Estonia) - European Capital of Culture 2024
Culture 2024 is the main event in Estonia and the largest regional cooperation project between Tartu and South Estonia. It aims to offer more than 1000 events for people of all ages. 2. Bad Ischl (Austria) - European Capital of Culture 2024
Bad Ischl and the Salzkammergut region in Upper Austria are presenting their cultural diversity in 2024 under the motto "Culture is the new salt". In addition to the attractions of Bad Ischl, such as the Kaiservilla, the summer residence of Emperor Franz I and the popular Sissi, and its imperial-style buildings and parks, 23 municipalities will be included in the bid for the first time in history. 3. Bodø (Norway) - European Capital of Culture 2024

5. Sintra Parks (Portugal) - "Best Cultural Destination".
Nominated for the first time to the World Luxury Travel Awards, the Parks of Sintra, in Portugal, won the award for 'Best Cultural Destination' in the world. This distinction, which contributes to consolidate Sintra as a cultural destination of international reference, recognizes the high quality of the work that the company carries out to preserve and enhance the Cultural Landscape of Sintra, classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1995.
In the last decade, the parks and monuments managed by Sintra Parks received some 25 million visits. Nominees for the 133 categories of the World Luxury Travel Awards were grouped into five themes - "Air," "Water," "Land," "Destination" and "Lifestyle" - and are determined by an independent jury, whose choices are based on visitors' comments on their experience. The evaluation takes into account factors such as excellence in service, attention to detail and efficiency, among many others.

6. Cairo (Egypt) - Inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum
First it was said that it would be inaugurated in 2022, celebrating the centenary of the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun and the bicentenary of the discovery of the Rosetta Stone, then in 2023 and now it seems that it will definitely be in 2024, after more than a decade of construction; in fact the first private visits have already been authorized.
If the plan comes to fruition, the new Grand Egyptian Museum, on the outskirts of Cairo, on the Giza plateau, and next to the Pyramids will be the largest archaeological museum in the world and will house more than 100,000 pieces, of which 4,549 will be from the tomb of the famous King Tutankhamun. The Great Egyptian Museum is expected to receive around 15,000 visitors per day, three times the number of people who visit the current museum daily. This will equate to more than 5 million visitors per year.
7. Malmö (Sweden) - Hosts the Eurovision Song Contest
Malmö, Sweden's third largest city and capital of the south, will host the final of the Eurovision Song Contest on May 11 and the semi-finals will also take place there on May 7 and 9. Malmö was chosen after a robust city bidding process that examined the venue's facilities, ability to accommodate thousands of delegations, crew, fans and visiting journalists, infrastructure and other criteria.
Malmö has extensive experience in this type of event, having successfully hosted it first in 1992 and then in 2013. Moreover, for Sweden it will be the seventh time it has hosted the Festival, which this year and next year will be sponsored by the Royal Caribbean shipping line. Those who are encouraged to visit Malmö on the occasion of the Festival or at any other time will enjoy strolling along Stortorget, the nerve center of the city, presided over by the Renaissance building of the City Hall.

8. Valencia (Spain) - European Green Capital 2024
For the second time, a Spanish city has been elected European Green Capital 2024; the previous one was Vitoria-Gasteiz in 2012 and in 2019 it was proclaimed Global Green City. There are many merits of Valencia that have led it to be a leader in ecological environmental policy. Its pioneering bid to become a climate-neutral and smart city by 2030 and its sustainable urban development model, its efforts to improve the environment and quality of life have earned it this designation, in which it competed as a finalist with the Italian city of Cagliari.
Its two natural parks (the Albufera and the Turia), the role of its fertile orchard as a pantry of the world, the showcase of its markets and a mobility that leaves no trace, with more than 200 kilometers of bike lanes and nearly a hundred pedestrian areas are its big bets for sustainability. Valencia can also boast almost five million square meters of green spaces. 10. Paris (France) - Olympic and Paralympic Games Celebration
Record numbers for the next edition of the Olympic Games to be held in the French capital from July 26 to August 11. Paris will welcome a total of 206 sports delegations for the Olympic Games and 182 for the Paralympic Games.

13. Germany - UEFA EURO 2024
Germany will welcome thousands of soccer fans in the summer of 2024 for the UEFA European Championship to be held from June 14 to July 14, 2024. The matches will be played in the ten host cities of Berlin, Cologne, Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Dortmund, Leipzig, Gelsenkirchen, Stuttgart and Düsseldorf. Spain will be one of the participating teams.
In the first round, they will face Croatia on June 15 at 6 p.m. at the Berlin Olympic Stadium. 14. Villafranca del Bierzo (Spain) - Las Edades del Hombre (The Ages of Man)
After 35 years of history, Las Edades del Hombre, an exhibition of the religious art of the Castilla y León region, continues to be one of the most emblematic projects of the community, capable of generating cultural and social development and being an economic engine through heritage. Its twenty-seventh edition will take place in Villafranca del Bierzo (León). The Ages of Man is one of the most emblematic cultural projects and with more projection of those that are developed in Castilla y León and one of the most important in our country.
The enthusiastic David Muriel, who has just joined the project, will surely give it a new impulse. Although there is still no definitive title, the exhibition will have hospitality as a common thread, one of the characteristics of the inhabitants of this region when it comes to welcoming pilgrims on the French Way of St. James. This cultural event is scheduled to open in June 2024. The venues where this exhibition will be located in Villafranca del Bierzo will be the Collegiate Church of Santa María and the Church of Santiago. This would be the third time that Las Edades del Hombre travels to another country after the editions of New York and Antwerp, and the first with a cross-border character. In addition to the editions of 2024 and 2025, the Junta de Castilla y León has anticipated that the Fundación Las Edades del Hombre will develop a major exhibition scheduled for autumn 2024 in the cathedral of Valladolid that will bring together two of the country's great Baroque sculptors: Gregorio Fernández and Juan Martínez Montañés. This event will be framed in the context of the ARPA 2024 biennial and will serve to establish a dialogue between the Castilian and Andalusian sculptural schools, of which they are the main bastions.
15. Doha (Qatar) - World Swimming Championships

16. Parma and Busseto (Italy) - Verdi Festival
In 2024 the 24th Verdi Festival is held every year in Parma and Busseto. Immersed in the countryside of the Bassa Parmense, a strip of plain in the province of Parma, the Verdiane Lands host this festival every year, a tribute to the illustrious 19th century musician who was born here in 1813.
The performances, from September 21 to October 20, include operas, concerts and recitals, and are held between Parma and Busseto, towns where it is possible to visit many places linked to the great composer, such as his birthplace in Roncole, the Verdi Museum in the Casa Barezzi where he grew up, the Verdi Theater and the monument in the main square that bears his name.

18. Algarve (Portugal) - 50th Cycling Tour

21. San Diego (USA) and Tijuana (Mexico) - World Design Capitals
The World Design Capital (WDC) is designated every two years by the World Design Organization (WDO). The program recognizes cities for their effective use of design to drive economic, social, cultural and environmental development. It is a year-long celebration of this innovative cross-border region coming together to design a better future.
The 2024 designation provides this vast area with a year-long international showcase of design through unique experiences and thought-provoking explorations that bring its communities together to celebrate what makes San Diego and Tijuana exceptional. WDC 2024 will feature a series of public events, conferences, exhibitions, summits and celebrations that will showcase all that the region has to offer and bring together world leaders to exchange ideas and create opportunities to use design to solve some of the most critical problems.
The calendar will include seven exclusive events in partnership with the World Design Organization, as well as community events that will help achieve program objectives, demonstrate their cross-border collaboration or promote design thinking.
22. Sucre (Bolivia) - Ibero-American Capital of Culture
The Ibero-American Capital of Culture is a title conferred by the sectoral committee of the Union of Ibero-American Capital Cities to an Ibero-American city, which for one year has the opportunity to showcase its cultural development and life. When a city is named Ibero-American Capital of Culture, all kinds of artistic manifestations are developed in it.
This designation will allow the capital to carry out various cultural activities at international level with the support of the 29 cities that are part of the Union of Iberoamerican Capital Cities (UCCI). The designation of Sucre as "Ibero-American Capital of Cultures 2024", will make it visible as a heritage city and boost its tourism activity at the international level, as part of the celebrations of the Bicentennial 2025.
In 2019 Sucre was named Ibero-American Capital of Peace. Sucre is the historical and constitutional capital of Bolivia. This is something that the people of Sucre carry with great pride. 23. Xian (China) - 50th anniversary of its famous warriors
By chance, farmers digging a well on March 29, 1974 discovered the head of a figure that, after excavation, turned out to be one of the more than 8,000 soldiers of the Terracotta Army that protected the nearby tomb complex of the first emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang, after his death in 210 BC.

24. Budapest (Hungary) - 150th anniversary
The union of the two old cities of Buda and Pest - again united by the Chain Bridge, symbol of the city that has just been restored after two years of work - together with Obuda, which has just celebrated its 150th anniversary at the end of 2023, have given rise to one of the most beautiful capitals of Europe. A city that did not suffer too much from the war and has managed to maintain its old character with new buildings in complete harmony.
Famous for its architecture, the capital of Hungary embraces everything from modernism to neoclassical through Gothic and Baroque, with the blue Danube connecting it all like a ribbon. And then there are its mineral-rich thermal baths, which exhibit intricate flourishes in design. Even abandoned places that elsewhere would be demolished have given birth to the highly original "ruin bars" decorated with scrap elements but with an impressive ambience... and attractive prices.
On the banks of the Danube, avant-garde buildings such as the shopping mall known as "the Whale" for its silhouette, near the popular Central Market, the spectacular Hungarian House of Music and the National Athletics Center testify to a city optimistic about the next 150 years.
