Morocco bets on high-speed rail to transform Tourism

06-04-25

Morocco has taken a decisive step toward modernizing its transportation network and strengthening its position as a top-tier tourist destination with the launch of construction on the new Kenitra–Marrakech High-Speed Rail Line (HSR). Officially inaugurated by King Mohammed VI, this ambitious railway project marks a milestone in the country’s territorial development strategy and promises an unprecedented economic, social, and tourism impact.

The new infrastructure will connect the northern and southern regions of the Kingdom with significantly reduced travel times. With the new line, journey durations between Morocco’s main cities will be drastically shortened: just one hour between Tangier and Rabat; one hour and 15 minutes between Casablanca and Marrakech; one hour and 40 minutes between both Tangier and Casablanca and Rabat and Marrakech; and two hours and 40 minutes between Tangier and Marrakech. This last connection represents a time saving of more than two hours compared to current travel times, dramatically improving mobility across the country and enhancing access to key tourist destinations.
