ATACC advances at FITUR 2025 with important alliances for Inclusive Tourism
24-01-25
The American Alliance for Accessible Tourism (ATACC) had a key day at the International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR) in Madrid, consolidating its role as a promoter of more inclusive and sustainable tourism. On its second day of participation, ATACC strengthened its network of strategic alliances and actively participated in international events of great relevance for tourism accessibility.
Commitment to sustainability: We accompanied the Cocoa NETWORK at the CAF stand.
The day began with ATACC's participation in the presentation of the Cocoa Network at the stand of the Andean Development Corporation (CAF). This project, which links sustainable tourism with the development of local value chains, demonstrates how tourism activity can generate positive impacts on communities. As part of its mission, ATACC supported this initiative, highlighting its commitment to inclusion and sustainability in tourism destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Participation in the UNWTO event on Accessible Tourism
ATACC had an outstanding intervention in the event organized by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), entitled “Accessible Tourism: Harnessing the Benefits of Inclusive Destinations”. This meeting addressed accessibility as a human right and a competitive advantage for tourism destinations, highlighting successful experiences and key strategies for the implementation of inclusive policies in the sector.
Within this framework, ATACC held strategic dialogues with world leaders in accessible tourism, such as Glenn Mandziuk, specialist in sustainable destination planning; Patricio Azcárate Díaz, representative of Biosphere Tourism, with whom collaboration opportunities were explored; John Sage, global leader in accessible tourism through Sage Inclusion; and Ivor Ambrose, director of the European Network for Accessible Tourism (ENAT) and expert in AccessibleEU, who showed great interest in ATACC's work. In addition, conversations were held with representatives of Ilunion and other key players in the sector, reaffirming the global interest in strengthening accessibility as a fundamental pillar of tourism.
Collaboration with the Vitoria City Council to promote inclusive urban models
Throughout the day, ATACC also held a strategic meeting with representatives of the Vitoria City Council, internationally recognized for its urban accessibility model. At this meeting, the possibility of the city joining ATACC was discussed and joint initiatives were explored to develop projects that could serve as a reference for other cities interested in promoting truly inclusive tourism.
Expectations for the official launch of ATACC at FITUR
The most eagerly awaited event will take place tomorrow, January 24, at 2:00 p.m. at the Costa Rica stand (3C10), where the official launch of ATACC will be held. This milestone will mark the beginning of a new stage in the promotion of accessible and sustainable tourism in the region. Government representatives, tourism sector leaders, international organizations and accessibility experts are expected to participate in this transformative initiative.
ATACC invites all those interested in inclusive tourism to join this movement, which seeks to ensure that all people, regardless of their abilities, can enjoy barrier-free tourism experiences. With its presence at FITUR 2025, the Alliance reaffirms its commitment to building a more equitable, accessible and sustainable tourism for all.
