Phuket, one of Thailand's top tourist destinations, has implemented a new measure aimed at attracting more affluent tourists. From 2024, visitors wishing to enter the island will be required to prove a minimum bank balance of 8,200 euros. This measure is part of the Thai authorities' strategy to reposition the destination's image and prioritise quality over the quantity of tourists they receive.

Phuket, renowned for its paradise beaches and vibrant nightlife, has for years been a popular destination for tourists from all over the world. However, the increase in the number of visitors in recent decades has raised concerns among local authorities about the environmental impact and overcrowding of tourism. In response, Thailand has decided to change its approach, seeking to attract a more affluent segment of tourists that will contribute more significantly to the local economy while minimising the negative impact on the environment and infrastructure.
