During the start of the prestigious Salon du Chocolat 2024 in Paris, Peru stood out with a successful participation in the fourth edition of the AVPA International Competition, winning 40 of the 93 medals awarded. Ten cocoa producers from different regions of the country, such as Ayacucho, Cusco, Huánuco, Junín, San Martín and Puno, were awarded prizes, consolidating the reputation of Peruvian cocoa in the international arena.
The contest, organized by the Agency for the Valorization of Agricultural Products (AVPA), brought together competitors from 20 cocoa-producing countries in Africa, America and Asia. The Peruvian Export and Tourism Promotion Commission (PROMPERÚ) coordinated the Peruvian representation, highlighting the country's commitment to the development of cocoa production and the export of value-added chocolates.
Rosario Pajuelo, PROMPERÚ's economic and commercial advisor in Paris, underlined the importance of the achievement: “Our country ratifies its international leadership as a producer of cocoa and value-added chocolate bars”. At the awards ceremony, held as part of the Chocolate Salon program, the companies Diha (Huánuco) and Manari (Cusco) received gold medals for their 65% and 95% cocoa chocolates, respectively.
The silver medals highlighted the variety and quality of Peruvian products. Among the winners were Pumatiy, for its 70% cocoa chocolate with Andean corn dragées, Aprochok with its cocoa nibs, Pangoa (Junín) for its 68% chocolate, and Royal Raymi (Ayacucho) with its specialty Chocodark. Bronze medals were also awarded to producers such as Conveca (Cusco) for its 90% premium chocolate, Campos del Valle (Cusco) for its 73% cocoa chocolate with orange, and Barberis (Cusco) for its 70% cocoa bitter chocolate, among others.
In addition, PROMPERÚ, through its Trade Office in Paris, facilitated the participation of 11 cocoa and chocolate producers from various regions, including Amazonas and Piura, in the event. They exhibited their products at a Peruvian stand, created to strengthen the country's image in the international market, generating connections with buyers from all over the world.
The success of Peruvian cocoa at the Chocolate Fair reinforces the country's potential in the global market and its positioning as a benchmark in the production of high quality chocolate.
