Air China resumes flights between China and South America

After a four-year hiatus, marked by the suspension of air operations due to the global pandemic outbreak in February 2020, Air China is leading the resurgence of direct flights between China and South America. This milestone represents not only the resumption of a critical connection but also a significant advance over other airlines, surpassing China Southern, which recently announced its intention to reactivate its service to Mexico City, although it has not yet begun marketing tickets.

With the opening of sales for the route linking Beijing-Capital Airport to São Paulo/Guarulhos Airport in Brazil, with an intermediate stop in Madrid, Spain, Air China establishes a strategic air bridge. As reported by Aviacionline, the resumption is scheduled for April 28, offering twice weekly flights, every Thursday and Sunday. These will be operated by a modern Boeing 787-9, designed to accommodate up to 293 travelers, optimizing comfort and efficiency on this transcontinental route.

This reestablishment of services not only reactivates direct connections between the two continents but also symbolizes a crucial moment for the Latin America and Caribbean region. Prior to the disruption caused by the pandemic, Air China played a leading role in the region's air connectivity, offering flights to key destinations such as Panama City, Havana (Cuba) and São Paulo (Brazil). In addition, other airlines such as China Southern and Hainan Airlines contributed to this network with services to Mexico City, reflecting the importance and dynamic interaction between these markets.

The resumption of flights is not only testimony to the gradual recovery of the aviation industry in the post-pandemic context but also a reinforcement of the cultural and economic exchange between China and South American nations. As more routes are reestablished and flight frequency increases, a positive impact on tourism, business and bilateral relations between the regions involved is expected.
