UN Tourism welcomes 39 new Affiliate Members

The new members have very diverse profiles, with very different backgrounds and types of business: 3 destination management organizations, 14 for-profit companies, 10 associations and non-governmental organizations, 7 educational and research institutions and 5 others. In terms of geographic distribution, the newly admitted members come from all regions: 6 from Africa, 10 from the Americas, 3 from Asia and the Pacific, 13 from Europe and 7 from the Middle East.

"The integration of these important new entities reflects our ongoing efforts to strengthen the Affiliate Membership and to create a diverse and inclusive network capable of making a significant contribution to the work of UN Tourism. We remain committed to increasing the satisfaction of Affiliate Members and promoting their ownership of the Organization through their effective and mutually beneficial participation in key activities and projects," said Ion Vilcu, Director of UN Tourism's Affiliate Members and Public-Private Partnerships Department.

Governments and national tourism administrations are increasingly collaborating with UN Tourism to promote membership in their country's Affiliate Members and to further stimulate local tourism sectors so that their key entities are connected to the largest tourism network of its kind, which currently comprises 500 entities.

In accordance with the current admission procedure, the nominations were submitted for consideration and approval by the Executive Council after having been reviewed and endorsed by the Committee on Matters Relating to the Affiliate Members' Collective at its 5th meeting on June 6, 2024. These nominations are the result of the implementation of the strategy to promote a quality-oriented and geographically balanced expansion of the Affiliate Members' collective.

The admission of these new members was endorsed by the Executive Board at its 121st meeting, which took place in Barcelona, Spain, on June 10-11.
