IATA's 80th Annual General Assembly to be hosted by Dubai
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced that global airline industry leaders will gather in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, for the 80th IATA Annual General Assembly and World Air Transport Summit from June 2-4.
The event will be held for the first time in the United Arab Emirates and will be hosted by Emirates Airline. More than 1,500 participants, including industry leaders, government officials and media, are expected to attend.
“Dubai's world-leading connectivity puts it at the crossroads of the globe. And it will soon be the center of airline industry leadership as it hosts the 80th IATA Annual General Assembly and World Air Transport Summit,” said Willie Walsh, IATA Director General.
“We look forward to welcoming our industry colleagues to Dubai, the home and hub of Emirates. This is a city that has forged its place in global aviation and thrived thanks to its visionary leaders and progressive policies that recognize the role of air transport as a key economic enabler.
In line with this, last year aviation contributed 27% of Dubai's GDP and generated $37 billion in gross value added. There are always exciting developments in Dubai and I hope that visiting delegates will have the opportunity to experience for themselves this lively city and the renowned UAE hospitality,” said Sir Tim Clark, Chairman of Emirates.
“The commitment to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050 will top the agenda at IATA's 80th Annual General Assembly and World Air Transport Summit. We will explore solutions to accelerate progress, particularly with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production and carbon removal potential. We will also take stock of our progress on safety, financial sustainability and other key industry issues. It is important that we put these challenges on the table so that all stakeholders, including governments, have a clear understanding of what airlines need to connect people and economies in a safe, efficient and increasingly sustainable way,” Walsh said.
Globally, aviation directly employs 3 million people and is a key part of the travel and tourism value chain that supports some 320 million jobs and accounts for about 10% of all economic activity. In addition, air cargo generates $8.3 trillion in trade.
