The next edition of the Madrid International Tourism Trade Fair - FITUR, which stands out as one of the most relevant platforms for global tourism, will unveil a pioneering project: the World Cocoa Tourism Destinations Network.
This project, conceived by the Tourism and Society Think Tank and led by Ms. Amora Carbajal Schumacher, is projected as a unique and highly rewarding experience for enthusiasts of cocoa and its derivatives, such as chocolate, nibs, cocoa butter, cocoa liquor, among others, and for those who value the rich culture that revolves around them.
The official presentation of the Network will take place at the Guatemala stand (stand 3c14 - pavilion p03) on Wednesday, January 24 at 4:00 p.m., with the distinguished presence of Mr. Harris Whitbeck, Minister of Tourism of the Republic of Guatemala, and Mrs. Amora Carbajal Schumacher, who is the Network's director.
This launch marks the consolidation of an international alliance of destinations that celebrate cocoa and its derivatives, offering travelers an exceptional opportunity to explore the history, culture and the process of production and transformation of cocoa from its origin, to delight with a diversity of authentic and unique experiences related to this valuable fruit.
Unique Experiences in the Network's Key Destinations
The network encompasses a variety of activities and destinations that include visits to cocoa plantations in countries such as Guatemala, Ecuador, Peru, Costa Rica, the Philippines, Ghana and others, where tourists can discover the secrets of cocoa cultivation, harvesting and processing.
It also offers the opportunity to explore factories and chocolate factories and observe the fascinating process of transforming cocoa into other products.
Through this network you can access cocoa museums located in different regions of the world, some of which are cocoa producing and processing destinations, and others located in destinations that also have a rich history in the transformation of this fruit, and that provide a cultural and educational perspective on its evolution, and that are countries like Belgium, Canada, Italy, Switzerland, among others. This network will also host congresses, fairs and festivals that pay tribute to the culture of cocoa and its derivatives, including activities such as tastings, contests, workshops, master classes, training, among others.
For those interested in a more interactive experience, the network proposes cocoa routes that guide visitors through a series of experiences related to this product, including workshops and classes where tourists can learn how to make their own chocolate, for example.
In addition, chocolate tastings allow visitors to sample a wide variety of cocoa and chocolates of different flavors and origins.
In these destinations, tourists will also have the opportunity to explore the local culture, meet the communities and learn about cocoa-related traditions. They will also be able to purchase a variety of products, from artisanal bars to themed souvenirs.
Regenerative Tourism
In addition to offering a captivating experience for lovers of cocoa, chocolate and other derivatives, as well as the culture that surrounds it, the World Cocoa Destination Network is committed to Regenerative Tourism. Through this initiative, responsible agricultural and commercial practices are encouraged with the cocoa industry, betting on a tourism in which travelers are involved and participate, thus contributing to sustainable development and improvement of local communities and care for the environment.
The presentation of the World Cocoa Tourism Destinations Network at FITUR'2024 represents a key event in the tourism and cocoa industry. This network not only promises a memorable experience for those interested in the history, production and transformation of cocoa, but also offers a unique combination of education, enjoyment, social and environmental responsibility to the traveler.
