Argentina's Ministry of Tourism becomes a Secretariat of Tourism, Environment and Sports

11-01-24

It is already known which entity will manage tourism in Argentina after the assumption of Javier Milei as president. After having had its own Ministry -shared with Sports-, Tourism is now relegated to a Secretariat, which will also be shared with Sports and Environment.

The measure has been reflected in Decree 33/2024, published in the Official Gazette. The regulation also states that the Secretariat of Tourism, Environment and Sports will depend on the Ministry of the Interior, headed by Guillermo Francos. Likewise, the decentralized agencies of each area will also be under said Secretariat, among them, the National Institute for the Promotion of Tourism (Inprotur).

What is not known, for the moment, is who will be in charge of the different agencies. In this regard, it should be recalled that Tourism and Sports, when they were a Ministry, were headed by Matías Lammens from Buenos Aires, while Inprotur was headed by Yanina Martínez. In fact, Argentine media believe that Martínez will continue to be in charge of the country's tourism promotion.
