European tourism is in the midst of a transformation, driven by digitalization, sustainability and an economic recovery that is redefining wage structures. According to Catenon's Global Tourism Salary Trends - 2025 report, salary increases of between 3% and 5% are projected in the region, with Spain standing out as a leader in innovation and technology applied to the sector.

Jobs related to sustainable tourism and technology are the big players in the labor market. In Spain, roles in big data and responsible destination management experienced increases of up to 15%, consolidating the country as a benchmark in the creation of specialized job opportunities. Destinations such as the Balearic and Canary Islands are leading this commitment to more responsible tourism.

“Digitalization is redefining the demands of the sector, while sustainability is driving quality projects and more conscious travel. These factors are positioning Spain as a global leader,” says Iñigo Pérez, General Manager of Tourism at Catenon.

On the technology front, areas such as personalization of experiences and data analysis are registering significant increases. Meanwhile, jobs related to green logistics and environmental responsibility are gaining ground in premium destinations, where salaries are up to 12% above the industry average.

Challenges remain, however. Automation limits wage increases in core operational positions, and disparities between countries remain evident. Germany and France lead in remuneration, while Eastern European countries show lower figures. Spain, however, balances the scales with incentives such as labor flexibility and training programs.

By 2025, Spain and Europe will not only lead the way in innovation, but also chart the path toward more inclusive and sustainable tourism. This change promises to strengthen the sector's competitiveness in an increasingly demanding global market, marking a new era for the industry.
