World Islamic Tourism Conference to take place in September
23-08-24
Next September, Malaysia will host the fourth edition of the World Islamic Tourism Conference (WITC) in Bandar Sunway, near Kuala Lumpur, on 12-13 September. This event, organised by the Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC), brings together global experts to discuss and explore the latest trends in Islamic tourism, a growing sector that plays a key role in the global economy.
The WITC promises to be a turning point for Islamic tourism, with a dynamic agenda that includes keynote lectures from renowned speakers and interactive panels. Attendees will have the opportunity to exchange ideas, make global connections and learn about the latest developments in the sector.
Nizran Noordin, Director General of ITC, highlighted the importance of this event, underlining that Malaysia, which has been repeatedly ranked as the most Muslim-friendly destination in the Mastercard-CrescentRating Global Muslim Travel Index, is the ideal location to host the conference. This reinforces Malaysia's position as a leading destination for Muslim travellers, an industry that has grown exponentially in recent years.
This year's keynote speakers include Omar Dacosta Shahid, CEO of Creed & Culture; Shahzad Younas, CEO of Muzz App; Arif Miah, head of strategy at Mud Orange; Marta Fernandez Martin, director of the Spanish Tourism Board; Mirza Vejzagic, vice president of the Malaysia-Bosnia and Herzegovina Business Council; and Chandran Rama Muthy, CEO of Batik Air. These experts will provide their perspectives on critical issues such as industry digitalisation and sustainability in Islamic tourism.
One of the main themes of the conference will be ‘The Power of Food’, which will explore how gastronomy can become the centrepiece of a journey, beyond being just a simple dietary necessity. This discussion underlines the growing importance of the culinary experience in tourism, especially in the context of Islamic tourism, where halal food plays an essential role.
This year's theme, ‘Forging Connections’, emphasises the importance of understanding Muslim tourists, Muslim-friendly travel, community, growth and opportunity, as well as inclusivity. The WITC seeks not only to understand the needs of this segment of travellers, but also to foster dialogue and collaboration between industry leaders, policy makers and influencers from around the world.
The conference also aims to address challenges and seize opportunities within the sector. With the growing demand for personalised and culturally sensitive travel experiences, WITC provides an essential platform for Islamic tourism professionals to connect and collaborate on creating innovative solutions that will drive sustainable growth in the sector.
In an increasingly globalised world, the importance of travel and tourism that respects and celebrates cultural differences cannot be underestimated. Events such as the WITC not only promote Islamic tourism, but also contribute to broader intercultural understanding and greater harmony between different communities.
The WITC has established itself as a must-attend event for those seeking to be at the forefront of Islamic tourism. It provides a unique opportunity for industry players to meet, exchange knowledge and work together to develop strategies that respond to the changing needs of Muslim travellers.
