The Mayor of the city, Carlos Pinedo Cuello, takes a significant step towards fulfilling the commitments made to the city by signing an important agreement with the Metropolis Foundation. This initiative aims not only to redesign the city from a structural and technological perspective but also to attract international investment to Santa Marta. The agreement represents a key step towards the development and progress of the district in anticipation of the city's 500th anniversary celebrations.
For Mayor Carlos Pinedo Cuello, Santa Marta is a city with great growth potential that, together with the Metropolis Foundation, will plan its territorial development taking into account the diversity of needs and expectations of the population, as well as the challenges and opportunities arising from economic, social, and environmental dynamics.

By promoting the construction of adequate infrastructure, access to basic services, the protection of natural resources, and the promotion of sustainable economic activity, focus can be placed on other areas of interest for the territory's evolution. For this reason, the Metropolis Foundation and its collaborators present a comprehensive proposal for tourist development and communication for the city of Santa Marta, aiming to position it internationally and make it a benchmark.
"We continue to work in alliances to fulfill Santa Marta's needs and generate the transformations the city deserves. In this quincentennial, we commemorate more than 500 years of history; we mark the beginning of a better future. With technology and innovation, we will put Santa Marta on the map for major investors," expressed Mayor Carlos Pinedo Cuello.
On the other hand, Claudia Cuello Daza, who celebrated the signing of this framework agreement with the Metropolis Foundation in her capacity as acting mayor, stated that this agreement will bring great benefits to the city. "Because it is time to reclaim our city, to have the city we dream of and deserve, with more economic development and competitiveness. An innovative city that can offer us, the people of Santa Marta, and visitors countless scenarios to enjoy, share, and have a more inclusive city with better spaces for coexistence and economic development," she said.
Spanish architect Alfonso Vegara is the president and founder of the Metropolis Foundation, an international center of excellence dedicated to research, design, and innovation in cities. Vegara has advised and developed urban projects in various cities worldwide. He is also a member of the jury of the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize and the honorary consul general of Singapore in Madrid.
"We have had the privilege of signing a cooperation agreement with the city of Santa Marta today to envision the future of this territory in a participatory manner.
I believe it can bring very inspiring ideas for the future, so that both the public and private sectors can work together to make this city a reference point in Colombia and also within this Caribbean region: Cartagena, Barranquilla, Santa Marta, which is a key point within the country," stated Alfonso Vegara.
Vegara's architectural work has been recognized by the United Nations, the European Union, the European Council of Town Planners, architects' associations and business associations. His awards include the prestigious King Jaime I Prize, awarded by His Majesty the King of Spain, and on three occasions, the European Prize for Urbanism.
Fundación Metrópoli is an international center of excellence in the research and design of cities of the future based in Madrid, Spain, a non-profit institution dedicated to contributing to the innovation and sustainable development of cities and territories, promoting research in these fields and applying the principles of sustainable development. One of the main activities of Fundación Metrópoli is the "Laboratory of Cities", which develops applied research on cities and undertakes projects focused on the integration of environmental policies. The headquarters of Fundación Metrópoli is an experimental building of bioclimatic architecture, which uses alternative energy sources and seeks maximum energy efficiency. These characteristics led to its selection by the Superior Council of Architects of Spain, the Ministry of Public Works and Green Building to represent Spain at the International Conference "Sustainable Building 2005" in Tokyo.
With this type of action, the invitation to unity and alliances that promote development and foreign investment is reinforced, always for the benefit of the city.
