Saudi Arabia to officially host World Tourism Day 2023

21-09-23

Leaders from across the global tourism sector will gather in Riyadh for World Tourism Day from 27-28 September. Ministers, experts and global industry leaders will highlight the power of tourism and implement collaborative agreements to foster the growth of the sector.

Under the theme "Tourism and Green Investment", World Tourism Day 2023 will examine the role of investment in people and the planet in securing livelihoods and fostering mutual understanding, while exploring opportunities to expand the scope of the industry's economic and social impact.

The global tourism sector is forecast to reach $9.5 trillion in GDP contribution by 2023, according to WTTC. This is in line with the UNWTO forecast that tourism remains on track to reach between 80% and 95% of pre-pandemic levels this year and is expected to surpass 2019 levels by 2024.

As one of the largest economic drivers of the global economy, the sector is responsible for a wealth of trade and employment opportunities, while playing a key role in bringing cultures together, connecting people and enhancing mutual understanding.

Reflecting the sector's potential as a key driver of change, three themes will guide the proceedings of the event: mutual understanding, economic sustainability and social prosperity.

By hosting this event four years after its opening to global tourists in 2019, Saudi Arabia demonstrates its commitment as a dedicated tourism sector organiser that aims to showcase its progress in connecting Saudis to the world, building bridges between cultures, nurturing hospitality talent and creating investment opportunities for the international community.
