The Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, Fatima Zahra Ammor, visited Marrakech and the province of Al Hauz, to assess the situation of establishments and tourist attractions affected by the earthquake.

In accordance with the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI for the rapid resumption of economic activities, the minister visited several tourist accommodation establishments in Marrakech and the province of Al Hauz, said a statement from the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social Economy.

On this occasion, the minister stressed that most of these establishments had shown great resistance to the earthquake, although some had suffered damage requiring repair work.

The trip to Al Hauz, the same source added, allowed the minister to meet with the inhabitants and professionals of the region, to learn about their situation and to discuss their employment needs, particularly in key sectors in this part of the country, such as tourism, handicrafts and the social and solidarity economy.

The minister also visited the medina of Marrakech, including emblematic places such as the Jamaâ El Fna square, the Semmarine souk and the spice square, according to the same source.

"Tourism in Marrakech is back to normal. We saw this during our visit to the Medina, which remains one of the main tourist attractions. It is true that there has been some damage, but it has been dealt with quickly. We want to assure our partners and future tourists that the situation in Marrakech is stable," says Ammor, quoted in the statement.

Tourism in this region, the statement recalls, is a driving force for other sectors such as crafts and the social and solidarity economy, and plays a fundamental role in the daily life of a large part of the population and in its socio-economic development.
