For this estimate, the agency has analyzed the data presented by the Tourism Councilors of New York, Miami, Abu Dhabi, Beijing, Stockholm, Milan, Paris, Berlin and London on the second day of the Turespaña Convention and the results of the Winter Trends Reports.

In this way, Turespaña has been able to make a forecast of arrivals and spending in the main markets. In Europe, Spain continues to be the leading destination for the United Kingdom and 2023 will close with data very similar to those before the pandemic in terms of the number of arrivals, far exceeding tourism spending that year.

The German market already exceeds 2019 tourism spending by almost 7% and, so far in 2023, Spain has received 93% of the German tourists arrivals in the same period of 2019, with a foreseeable maintenance of the growth trend for the last four months of the year.

It will also position itself as the top international destination for the French. Following the pandemic, there have been changes in the behavior of these tourists that explain the increase in spending in this market.

On the other hand, the Italian market already surpassed pre-pandemic levels in March, and Italians are diversifying their destinations and travel motivations towards Spain, supported by the connectivity between the two countries.

Nordic countries are progressively increasing their trips to Spain with a slight overall growth, a trend that is expected to continue in 2024.

In terms of long-haul destinations, the United States is the leading non-European market in terms of spending in Spain and is expected to maintain its growth during the winter season.

In 2023 the Ibero-American markets have increased spending by 58% compared to 2019 and from the Persian Gulf region there has been growth in both spending and destination in our country. This is a market with high purchasing power and high spending at destination.

For its part, Chinese tourism in Spain has experienced a gradual recovery, following the reopening of the market, with an increase in spending per tourist and a notable recovery in air connectivity. The outlook for this strategic market, with great potential for Spain, is optimistic.
