According to the European Travel Commission, vacation plans to the Mediterranean between June and November are already down 10% compared to 2022. Rearranging the schedule day by day or opting for air-conditioned accommodation are some of the solutions now.

Through a study, Passport Photo Online has investigated the impact that heat waves have on tourists' travel trends. And the fact is that, during this summer, there have been several temperature peaks that have been reached.

In this sense, almost 94% of travelers have noticed a change in the frequency or intensity of heat waves in recent years. And, along with this, more than 77% of respondents stated that they are likely or very likely to take potential heat waves into account when planning their vacations in the future.

The European Travel Commission (ETC) states that travel plans to the Mediterranean between June and November are already down 10% compared to last year. In addition, countries with milder climates, such as the Czech Republic, Denmark, Ireland and Bulgaria are experiencing an increase in tourists. Therefore, the Spanish Tourism Sector will have to be attentive to future changes that may occur.

Solutions to temperatures

Rearranging day-to-day schedules (27%), opting for accommodations with air-conditioned facilities (26%) and changing means of transport (25%) are the last-minute adjustments tourists are making in response to heat waves. It also highlights that nearly 50% cited health problems such as dehydration or exhaustion as their main concerns during heat waves.

To prevent this, 57% of travelers would consider taking out travel insurance that specifically covers problems caused by heat waves.
