Luxury destinations continue to be an option for international travellers who are willing to invest all their money in a special experience.

Holidays or leisure time for some people are spaces that have to have a good investment and be lived to the fullest, so there are those who save a good amount of time or those who have the economic availability to take a luxury trip, that is, those who seek the premium experience and therefore choose destinations that can offer them this experience.

According to a study by the World Travel and Tourism Council (Wttc), which highlighted the top 10 cities where international travellers spent the most in 2022, the most luxurious city in the world and where international tourists spend the most money is Dubai, with a total of $29.42 billion a year.

Attractions include the world's tallest building, desert excursions and yacht cruises. The experience here is extravagant, with the most luxurious brands, and is even considered one of the top destinations for luxury consumers worldwide, according to Visual Capitalist. In addition, luxury shopping is tax-free.

Location is another factor that benefits the city. Dubai is located between Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East, and is home to one of the busiest and best-connected airports in the world.

Next, Doha, located in Qatar, where spending by international travellers totals $16.79 billion, this city has been characterised by its infrastructure, increasingly surprising tourists with structures such as the Farmount Doha or the Tornado Tower.

London, in third place, is one of the most glamorous and expensive cities in the world, as the city has a wealth of amenities for travellers. Among the highlights there are five-star hotels, as well as a wide range of world-famous museums, galleries and attractions. This has allowed it to add US$16 billion of tourist spending in the city by 2022.

Fourth place, Macau, is known as the Las Vegas of Asia. There, foreign tourists generated US$15.6 billion in 2022, and that number is expected to multiply further over the next decade. This growth is being driven by China and Hong Kong, which account for the lion's share of visits.

Other destinations include Amsterdam, with $13.59 billion in spending by international tourists, and Istanbul, with $13.13 billion.

According to the study, luxury destinations continue to be an option for international travellers who are willing to invest all their money in a special experience, leaving aside the care of their pockets.
