He also considered coordination with the OCEX (Overseas Trade Office) in Dubai to be "crucial" in order to expand the exportable supply of handicrafts.
On the other hand, he projected that Peruvian handicraft exports would have reached 42 million dollars by the end of 2012, less than the 65 million dollars recorded in 2012.
He said that the last few months have been difficult for the sector's exports due to the country's political and social problems.
"Now that we have new authorities in the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, we will seek to work together to achieve the recovery of our sector," he said.
One of the proposals he will make will be the reactivation of the Crafts Working Table, in which the pending agenda was discussed, the problems of the sector were analysed and possible solutions were evaluated.
"We have the firm intention of revitalising this activity, which is decentralised and generates thousands of jobs. We will meet with the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Madeleine Burns, in whom we trust in order to achieve the goal of surpassing the 65 million dollars of 2012," he said.
Exports
Adex's Manufacturing Management indicated that Peruvian handicraft shipments amounted to 40 million 200 thousand dollars from January to November 2022, an amount 7.1% higher than the same period in 2021 (37 million 546 thousand dollars).
The United States led the ranking with 25 million 440 thousand dollars (up 8.1%) and accounted for 63.3% of total exports. The second destination was Germany, which, despite falling 33.8%, reached 2 million 364 thousand dollars.
Other buyer countries were Canada, United Kingdom, Japan, Chile, Switzerland, Italy, United Arab Emirates, China, among others. Exports of Peruvian handicrafts reached a total of 43 markets.
