Disinterest in new experiences

Expedia's latest research shows that holidaymakers are tired of the activities of the year-end holidays, so they have no motivation to seek out experiences on their next holiday, only to plan what they have dubbed a "nadacation".

According to the results of the survey of 4,000 US travellers, in December 34% said they felt exhausted from the holidays, and 96% of respondents plan to spend a portion of their next trip doing absolutely nothing. Travellers will be looking for warm places that offer relaxation. These will be the main features of their next trip, the company reported.

"There's a time and a place for an action-packed holiday itinerary, but our data shows that the first trip after the hectic holiday season calls for a more relaxed agenda," says Melanie Fish, director of public relations for Expedia Group brands. "For most travellers, making the most of their next holiday means setting aside dedicated time for nothing. One trick to avoid unnecessary stress while planning a non-holiday trip is to combine flights, hotels and car rentals on the Expedia app, which not only saves you time, but more than 10% off the price on average."

The survey also found that 47% of travellers want to start the new year with a trip, 31% as a remedy for anxiety or tired of the cold and rainy weather 34% in January. Sixty-two percent agree that "doing nothing" is their favourite part of the holiday and 61% consider it time well spent. Parents of under 4s have the urge to do nothing on their holidays with 49%.
