28-12-23

The Ministry of Culture of Peru reported that they are giving the final touches for the new online platform to be active soon to start selling tickets to Machu Picchu with multiple benefits and benefits that the current platform does not have, although they had to re-enable it to meet the high demand of visitors to the Imperial City at this time of year and in record time, the tickets were sold out until January 5, 2024.

The decision to sell tickets to Machu Picchu through a new online platform has achieved the agreement between the Ministry of Culture, representative of the Central Government of Peru and responsible for the management of cultural spaces in the country and the main regional and local actors, both public and private, also linked to tourism and cultural activity; However, it has also encountered opposition from some sectors of the population who are estimated to be misinformed and even manipulated by those who do not want to change the Status Quo that has repeatedly been the subject of complaints and investigations for mismanagement of tickets in the traditional system "We are talking about information [of ticket sales in Machu Picchu] that for many years has not been real," says Leslie Urteaga, Minister of Culture of Peru in a recent interview given to the newspaper El Comercio of that country (https: //elcomercio. pe/peru/cusco/ministra-de-cultura-estamos-hablando-de-informacion-de-la-venta-de-boletos-en-machu-picchu-que-por-much-anos-no-ha-sido-real-cusco-entradas-boletos-cultura-machu-picchu-noticia/)

The Ministry of Culture assures that the measure "will allow transparency, auditability and predictability that will facilitate having an additional tool to obtain a better profile of the visitors to the archeological sanctuary".

Regarding the protests generated by the new sales system, the institution mentions that "achieving solid agreements requires dialogue and coordination with the three levels of government and the private sector. As the entity that defines, directs and supervises tourism policies in Peru, we support those actions that allow us to continue promoting the flow of visitors in the regions, which is an important generator of employment and welfare for our country".
