The 7th World Wellness Weekend will be held in more than 150 countries

29-08-23

From 15 to 17 September, the 7th World Wellness Weekend will take place, a global celebration full of free, fun and friendly activities that aim to bring the general public closer to the concepts and exercise! of wellness in all its dimensions.

Of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations Agenda 2023, the third is "Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all". To support this goal, the World Wellness Weekend (WWW) was born in 2017; and since then, it encourages municipal authorities, tourism offices, associations and companies to organise free, fun and creative wellness activities that promote the 5 pillars of wellness: sleep and creativity, nutrition and immunity, movement and vitality, mindfulness and serenity, sense of purpose and solidarity.

This year, from 15 to 17 September, around 8000 venues and professionals from 150 countries around the world will make it possible (thanks also to the support of two ministries of health, three ministries of tourism, 30 municipalities, 60 international federations and 190 volunteers around the world).

In addition, every year, according to Lucía Romero de Ávila Nieto, WWW's national ambassador in Spain, the WWW Awards are held, which reward both outstanding countries for the number of participants (last year Brazil won) and entire cities for the number of activities they organise, an award which, last year, was won by the city of Marbella.

Spain is in first position, and its activities revolve around two focuses: "that wellness (physical, emotional, etc.) forms part of the activities in schools; and the development of wellness tourism, that is, helping hotels to develop wellness activities that break with seasonality and seasonality". Romero and his team hope that this event will help to develop "another type of holiday", different, healthier, that teaches us other ways of feeling good.

Activities in Spain

Lucía Romero de Ávila and her team in Spain (Juan Manuel Abucha, Leonor Tocino, Rosa Trinidad Sánchez, Natalia Bonín and María Elisa Jiménez), coordinated by Sandra Villarejo and Susana Rodríguez, have so far managed to organise more than 1400 activities in Spain in more than 600 different spaces, from hotels and resorts to parks or public schools (here you can see all the activities that will be held).

Most of these activities are located, once again this year, in the city of Marbella, where there are more than 600 registered for the moment (companies and professionals who want to participate are still in time to sign up: the call is open until 10 September). There will be, for example, initiatives of postural correction in schools (to correct back problems in children due to the use of screens and backpacks), a classroom training in "Yoga of laughter" in the Palacio de Congresos de Marbella (for which they have up to 500 teachers), workshops on ecological leadership for managers of hotels and resorts, or a programme of 6 activities of emotional wellbeing in primary schools, among many other activities.

The city of Benalmádena will also celebrate its "wellness festival"; and both Jerez de la Frontera and Tenerife, winners in 2022 as the most active city and island in the WWW Awards, will present their own agendas.

The Mayan Luxury Spa and Mayan Secret Spa will kick off the public with a Temazcal experience, followed by 15-minute massages, and a raffle on Instagram of two of their iconic 50-minute massages: Jak'óol and Chuun'nak, based on traditional Mayan energy-circulation healing techniques.
