On the opening day of WTM Latin America in Brazil, the host country's Minister of Tourism, Daniela Carneiro, received an award from the event's director, Daniel Zanetti, on Monday 3 April.

Daniela Carneiro, who became Minister of Tourism in January this year, has a degree in Pedagogy with a specialisation in Educational Guidance and a postgraduate degree in Psychomotricity. She was a primary school teacher in Rio de Janeiro. She was in charge of the Social Assistance portfolio in Belford Roxo (Rio de Janeiro) and was re-elected as a Federal Deputy.

Paraguay, Dominican Republic, Chile, Argentina, Peru, Costa Rica, Mexico, Colombia and Ecuador, among others, are attending this tourism fair, which is consolidating itself as a benchmark in the B2B tourism events sector.

"It is impossible to ignore an activity that represented 8% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) before the Covid-19 pandemic. Mainly because this is a segment that involves more than 50 economic activities, and that can and must be even greater, reaching the stature of our full potential," said Minister Carneiro in her acceptance speech.

Around 600 exhibitors are gathering at the Expo Center Norte in São Paulo, with a highlight for representatives of tourist destinations, operators, incoming companies, aviation companies, hotel networks and independent hospitality ventures.
