After months of turmoil in the Peruvian tourism industry, it seems that the light at the end of the tunnel is now visible, and what better way to increase international tourist arrivals than by boosting pre-existing routes or creating new ones.

Airlines from the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and South Korea are seeking direct flights from their cities to Peru, said Peru's Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), Luis Helguero.

"We are in very important talks with major airlines such as Emirates (Dubai), with which we are at quite advanced levels and which is currently at the Ministry of Economy and Finance. We are supporting them to come soon," the minister said on Saturday, according to a report in Andina al Día.

He added that Qatar Airways and Korean Air (South Korea) have also recently shown interest.

"In addition, Iberia announced that it will double frequencies to Peru, which is other great news for Peruvian tourism and foreign trade," he said.

Since last year, the Mexican airline Volaris started flights from Lima to Cancun, Mexico City and San Jose (Costa Rica), and there is interest from Turkish Airlines (Turkey) in promoting connections with Peru.
